Chair Standard

Chairs bear more stress on their rear legs, as these are the ones that absorb the weight of the upper body. Engineer and designer Jean Prouvé applied this simple idea to the unmistakable design of the Standard chair: the front legs, which support a relatively small weight, are made of tubular steel, while the rear legs are large, hollow elements that transmit the stress to the floor.
